Disconnect expansion hose - 2 - from steering box and seal with plastic bag and adhesive tape.

-

Seal threaded hole in steering box (e.g. with plastic screw plug).

-

Return pipe - 1 - can be unscrewed after lowering subframe.

-

Unbolt pendulum support (at gearbox end).

-

Power assisted steering box, assembly overview

Fit gearbox lifter VAG1 383A with attachment 1359/2. 

-

Loosen bolts- 1 -. 

-

Remove subframe bolts - 2 - and - 3 -. 

-

Lower subframe.

-

Unscrew return pipe at retainer - 1 - and rotary slide valve housing - 2 -. 

-

Unscrew steering box bolts and pull steering box toward rear of vehicle to remove.
