Wheel Alignment, Measuring

Wheel alignment, measuring 

The following equipment is required:
Electronic alignment unit; e.g. VAG1813

Ensure that the sliding plates and turn tables are not touching the end stop when checking the wheel alignment

Vehicle accurately aligned, suspension bounced and rocked several times

The test equipment must be properly adjusted and attached to the vehicle (see equipment manufacturer's instructions)

Carry out wheel run - out compensation.

Notes:  Compensating wheel run - out: the permissible lateral runout of the wheel rims can exceed the specified toe setting tolerance. If the
compensation for wheel runout is not performed, it will not be possible to obtain a correct toe adjustment.

Insert brake pedal depressor.

Overview of work sequence for measuring wheel alignment 

Notes:  The vehicle must be at correct curb weight when measuring wheel alignment.

Keep to the following work sequence
1 - Check front axle camber; Refer to Alignment and center if necessary
2 - Check rear axle camber.

Camber is not adjustable
Front - wheel - drive vehicles 
Toe of rear axle is not adjustable.
All - wheel - drive vehicles 
Toe is adjustable.

3 - Check rear axle toe and adjust if necessary.
4 - Check front axle toe with vehicle at curb weight and adjust if necessary.
