4. With good upper timing chains, cylinder #1 in TDC and a correctly adjusted valve timing, the control edges of the camshaft adjusters are visible
through the openings of the removed camshaft position sensors as shown in Figures 2 and 3.

5. If the control edges of the camshaft adjusters are visible through the holes when cyl. #1 is in TDC, do not replace the upper timing chains.

6. If the control edges of the camshaft adjusters are not visible through the opening when cylinder #1 is in the TDC position, the timing chain is
excessively long and the valve timing moves toward retarded. Only turning the crankshaft will make the control edges visible through the camshaft
position sensor holes.

In this case, replace the affected upper timing chains.
