c. Switch off the air conditioning and all other electricity consumers.

d. Read Measuring Value Block (Display Group) 208 and 209.

e. Ensure that idle speed is not above 640/min in MVB 208/209 (Figure 1, black arrow).

The measuring value blocks 208 and 209 show the sequence of crankshaft and camshaft for the intake and exhaust camshaft (Figure 1, white arrow) in
°KW.

With excessive chain lengthening, the idle values will be below -8.0°KW, or the displayed fields will be empty.

2. If idle value of 208/209 is above or equal to -8° (f.e. -8°...2°):

^ Check the camshaft position sensors and the RPM sensor for malfunction using Guided Fault Finding.

^ Do not perform any repairs on the timing chains.

If idle value of 208/209 is below -8° (f.e. -9°...11°), or if no values are shown:

^ Check the camshaft position sensors and the RPM sensor for malfunction using Guided Fault Finding.

^ If the camshaft position sensors do not show a malfunction, visually check the upper timing chains for excessive lengthening.

Visually check upper timing chains for excessive lengthening

1. Switch engine off.

2. Remove both camshaft position sensors.

3. Adjust cylinder #1 to the TDC position. Use the mark on the pulley.
