Steering Gear: Procedures
Power Steering Gear (ZF), Servicing

Power steering gear (ZF), servicing 

Note:  Use only genuine hose clamps.

1 - 

Tie rod end

^

Note different versions for left and right

2 - 

Lock nut, 50 Nm

^

Counterhold at flats on tie rod end when loosening and tightening

3 - 

Hose clip

^

Replace - open using nipper pliers

^

Tightening

4 - 

Boot

^

Remove tie rod before disassembling

^

Check for wear (slits, cracks); check sealing surfaces and sealing lips for dirt/damage

^

If replaced, check center position of steering gear

5 - 

Hose clip

^

Replace - open using nipper pliers

^

Tightening

6 - 

Tie rod

^

Tightening torque at rack: 75 Nm

^

Counterhold at flats on rack when loosening and tightening.

^

If replaced, check center position of steering gear

7 - 

Clamp with rubber insert

^

For attachment to subframe
