Removing

Move passengers seat all the way back and put backrest at a 45 degrees angle.
CAUTION: On vehicles with Front Passengers Airbag -Off- Key Switch E224, follow safety precautions for working on airbags.

Open glove compartment cover - 1 -.
NOTE: If glove compartment cover does not open, it can be opened using the emergency release.
CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.

Switch off ignition.

Clamp off ground wire at battery with ignition switched off.

If present, remove CD changer.

Remove bolts - arrows -.

Remove glove compartment far enough that all electrical connectors can be disconnected.
CAUTION: Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "electrostatically
discharge". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

Disconnect electrical harness connector at central connector.

Disconnect knee airbag connector (yellow).

Pull retainer - 2 - in - direction of arrow - and disconnect connectors - 1 - and - 3 -.
Installing
Installation is reverse of removal. Observe the following when doing so:

Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "electrostatically discharge". This can
be done by touching door striker, for example.
