Affected Vehicles

94 Rear turn signal or backup light does not work on one side

Condition

-

Message concerning a light bulb is displayed in the driver information display. The message may be static or sporadic.

-

The following DTCs may be stored in the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module J519:

-

DTC 01519 012 (Right Back-Up Light -M17- Electrical fault in circuit)

-

DTC 01518 012 (Left Back-Up Light -M16- Electrical fault in circuit)

-

DTC 03099 012 (Right Rear Turn Signal Light -M8- Electrical fault in circuit)

-

DTC 03098 012 (Left Rear Turn Signal Light -M6- Electrical fault in circuit)

-

The backup light and/or the turn signal on one side may not work.

Technical Background

One of the following:

-

Poor bulb holder contacts.

-

A ground connection in the bulb holder sporadically does not maintain contact.

Production Solution

Part redesign.

Service

1. If a single turn signal bulb or backup light bulb does not function, and there is a DTC stored:

a. Check whether the light bulb is seated firmly in the bulb holder.

b. If the light bulb appears loose, slightly bend the contacts with needle nose pliers to improve the contact force on all bulb contacts.

2. If the turn signal bulbs and backup light bulb do not function on one side, and a DTC for both the turn signal and backup light bulb on the same

side are stored:
