Steering Column Control Module: Service and Repair

Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› dia. 2.5 mm drill; length at least 75 mm
Removing

If the control module was replaced, select the "Replace" function for the respective control module in or Guided Functions Vehicle diagnosis,
testing and information system VAS 5051.

Adjust steering wheel downward and to rear as far as possible, use entire adjustment range of steering column adjustment for this.

Remove airbag unit. Refer to Removal and Installation.

Remove steering wheel. See: Steering Wheel
CAUTION!
Risk of damaging coil connector.
‹› Coil connector with slip ring is not to be turned following removal.

Remove steering column trim. See: Steering Column

Disconnect electrical connector - 4 - on Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527) - item 1 - by removing fuse - 3 - - arrow -
and pressing release down.
CAUTION!
Risk of destroying electronic components with static discharge.
‹› To discharge static, touch vehicle ground with hand (while not wearing gloves).
