AM Radio, Noise Interference

Condition
With radio set to AM stations, a constant high pitched noise may be heard with engine running. The noise may be described as "Morse code" being heard
in the background with the radio set to certain AM stations.

Noise may be caused by the Haldex coupling control module.

Service

-

Start engine and verify noise presence with radio tuned to AM station (where noise has been heard).

-

Switch ignition OFF and remove key.

-

Switch radio ON and listen for previously heard noise.

If noise is eliminated with ignition switched OFF, key removed and radio switched ON:

-

Restart engine and verify that noise returns.

Remove Haldex fuse from fuse panel (see insert on fuse panel cover for fuse location).

If noise is gone when fuse is removed:

-

Replace Haldex coupling control module with Part No: 02D 900 554C with improved noise suppression for the Haldex electric motor.
