Connect pressure gauge V.A.G 1402.

Remove hose clamps 3094 from intake and return lines.

Start engine and, if necessary, top off fluid level in reservoir.

Turn steering wheel approx. 10 times from lock to lock.

Check delivery pressure.

With engine idling, close shutoff valve (not longer than 5 seconds) and read pressure.
Specification: 110 to 120 bar

Replace the pump if the reading is higher or lower than specified:

Removing and installing power steering pump (vehicles with bottom-mounted power steering pump).

Always check steering system for leaks if fluid level is low in reservoir.

If leakage is visible at steering pinion, first check lines and line connections for leaks. Tighten and wipe dry if necessary.

Replace steering gear if leakage is found at steering pinion seal or at rack seal in steering gear housing.
^
To check steering rack seals, loosen hose clip on boot and push back boot.
