Connect VAG 1527 B voltage tester to contacts 2 and 3 of the connector.

-

Operate starter briefly.

-

The LED should flash briefly.

If the specifications are not obtained:

-

Connect test box VAG 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control module. Do not connect to the engine control module itself. See: Computers
and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/Scan Tool Testing/With Manufacturer's Scan Tool/Scan Tool
Connecting and Initial Checks/Wiring and Component Testing Using VAG1598/31 Test Box

Test for open circuit and short to positive or Ground in the following wiring connections:

Correct any open/short circuit as necessary.

If no malfunction is detected:

Replace ignition coil with power output stage (combined as a single component).
