Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Removing and Installing
Power assisted steering box, assembly overview
Notes:
-
No repairs can be performed on the steering box, apart from replacing the track rods and boot.

Replace self - locking nuts and bolts.
-
Welding and straightening work on steering components is not permitted.
1 - Heat shield
2 - Hex nut
-
Tighten to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.)
3 - Hex bolt
-
Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
4 - Universal joint for steering column
5 - Hex bolt
-
Tighten to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)

Always replace
6 - Sealing collar
7 - Return pipe
-
Steering box - hydraulic fluid reservoir
-
Distance from steering box should be 10 mm
8 - Sealing rings
-
Always replace
9 - Banjo bolt
-
Tighten to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)

M16 x 1.5
10 - Banjo bolt
-
Tighten to 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.)
-
M14 x1.5
11 - Expansion hose
-
Power steering pump - steering box
12 - Self - locking hex nut
-
Tighten to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)
13 - Steering arm on wheel bearing housing
14 - Lock nut
-
Tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
