Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair

Flange shaft oil seals, replacing (transmission installed)

Observe general repair instructions.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

VW 771 Multi - purpose tool

VW 771/37 Puller hooks

Removing 
Before replacing left- hand oil seal:
-

Remove drive axle

Before replacing right- hand oil seal:
-

Turn steering to right to full lock stop.

-

Remove drive axle protective shield from engine, if fitted.

-

Disconnect drive axle from flange shaft.

-

Tie - up drive axle as high as possible. Do not damage paint on drive axle.

-

Place drip tray underneath.

-

Remove flange shaft cone head bolt.
