Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 01 number 07-17 dated July 19, 2007 for reasons listed below.

Affected vehicles

57 No signal/no communication (DTC 01330 004 - J393)

Condition

A3: Windows, sunroof, autolock function and interior lock button do not function one time.

TT: Windows, autolock function and interior lock button do not function one time, spoiler deploys, and spoiler warning light comes on.

DTC 01330 (Comfort system central control module -J393 No signal/communication Sporadic) is stored in the Climate Control Module (J255),
Gateway (J533), Door Control Modules (J386, J387, J388*, J389*), and Vehicle Electrical System Control Module (J519).

The Comfort Control Module (J393) has no related DTCs set.

The remote keys function as designed.

-

Mechanical unlocking with the interior door handle and locking of the vehicle with the key is still possible.

* Rear door control modules not present in the TT.

Technical Background

The Comfort Control Module will not communicate with other control modules on the CAN bus causing certain comfort functions to be inoperational.

Exchanging the Climate, Gateway, Door, or Vehicle Electrical System, or Comfort Control Module will not fix the issue.

Production Solution

Improved software to prevent this one time occurrence.

Service

1. Instruct the customer how to wake the Comfort Control Module (J393), by either of the following procedures with the ignition on.

a. TT and A3: Engage the mechanical parking brake while the vehicle is in Park/Neutral and stationary.

b. A3 only: Open the rear hatch by using the Soft-touch handle on the rear hatch.

2. Once the Comfort Control Module is awakened, all functionality will resume and will not reoccur.
