Remove vacuum in brake booster by pressing brake pedal repeatedly. 

-

Remove brake light switch. => [ Brake Light Switch ] See: Lighting and Horns/Brake Light Switch/Service and Repair.

Main brake cylinder, removing => [ Brake Master Cylinder ] See: Hydraulic System/Brake Master Cylinder/Service and Repair/Brake Master
Cylinder.

‹› Remove brake booster vacuum sensor (G483), depending on model => [ Brake Booster Vacuum Sensor ] See: Brake Booster Vacuum

Sensor/Service and Repair.

Unclip and remove vacuum line from brake booster.

-

Remove driver's side compartment: => Body Interior

 68 Removal and Installation

-

Disconnect brake pedal from brake booster => [ Brake Pedal to Brake Booster, Disconnecting and Connecting ] See: Brake Pedal Assy/Service
and Repair/Brake Pedal to Brake Booster, Disconnecting and Connecting. 

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, with special attention to the following:

Use new nuts.

Observe tightening specification

Clip brake pedal together with brake booster => [ Brake Pedal to Brake Booster, Disconnecting and Connecting ] See: Brake Pedal Assy/Service
and Repair/Brake Pedal to Brake Booster, Disconnecting and Connecting. 

‹› Install brake booster vacuum sensor (G483), depending on model => [ Brake Booster Vacuum Sensor ] See: Brake Booster Vacuum

Sensor/Service and Repair.

-

Install brake master cylinder. => [ Brake Master Cylinder ] See: Hydraulic System/Brake Master Cylinder/Service and Repair/Brake Master
Cylinder.

-

Brake light switch, installing => [ Brake Light Switch ] See: Lighting and Horns/Brake Light Switch/Service and Repair.

-

Install driver's side compartment: => Body Interior

 68 Removal and Installation

-

Brake system: ABS/ESP Mark 60, bleeding => [ Brake System Bleeding ] See: Brake Bleeding/Service and Repair/Brake System Bleeding. 

-

Initiate brake pressure sensor basic setting.

Use vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051 B) for this. 

-

Perform ESP driving and system test.

On vehicles with ABS/ESP, initiate brake pressure sensor basic setting.

Perform ESP driving and system test.
