Camshaft: Testing and Inspection
Camshafts, Checking Axial Clearance
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› Dial gauge holder (VW 387)
‹› Dial gauge (VAS 6079)
Test sequence
-
Perform measurement with guide frame removed.

Place camshaft to be checked in guide frame.
-
Secure Dial Gauge (VAS 6079) to cylinder head with Dial Gauge Holder (VW 387).

Press camshaft against dial gauge by hand.
-
Set dial gauge to "0".
-
Press camshaft off dial gauge and read out value:
‹› Axial clearance: 0.05 to 0.17 mm.
