Camshaft, Measuring Axial Play

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Dial Gauge Holder (VW 387)

‹› Dial Gauge (VAS 6079)

Procedure

Proceed as follows:

-

Remove guide frame. Refer to => [ Camshafts ] See: Service and Repair. 

-

Place camshaft to be checked in guide frame.

-

Secure dial gauge (VAS 6079) to cylinder head with universal dial gauge holder (VW 387).

-

Press camshaft against dial gauge by hand.

-

Set dial gauge to "0".

-

Press camshaft off dial gauge and read the value:

‹› Axial clearance: 0.05 to 0.17 mm.
