EVAP Frequency Valve: Testing and Inspection

Combination Frequency/On-Off Valve For Charcoal Canister

 
    On the V8 motronic engine control system, the carbon canister frequency valve and on/off valve are manufactured as a single unit, attached to the right
fender. The on/off valve portion is vacuum operated and opens the passage between the frequency valve and purge hose, when manifold vacuum is
applied. Since the two valves are integrated into a single unit, we have provided a testing procedure here for the shut-off portion of this valve.
 

1.

Check that the frequency valve portion of the unit is operating properly. See: Evaporative Emission Frequency Valve

2.

Disconnect manifold vacuum hose from valve and connect vacuum pump in its place.

3.

Disconnect hose from charcoal canister at frequency valve and connect short piece of vacuum hose in its place.

4.

Perform output check again, call up output code 4343. 

5.

While frequency valve is operating, apply approx. 17" of vacuum to manifold vacuum port and blow into vacuum hose connected to canister port.

Air should pass through valve to purge port. 

 
If not, replace valve.
