1 Series E81 118i (N46T) 3-door
Note:
For the timing check described below, the original chain tensioner
must be installed.
Install chain tensioning piston.
Remove special tools 11 9 291 and 11 9 292 from
camshafts.
Pull special tool 11 5 120 back until flywheel is no longer
secured in position.
Crank engine at central bolt twice in direction of rotation until
engine returns to firing TDC position of cylinder no. 1.
Secure flywheel with special tool 11 5 120 in firing TDC
position of cylinder no. 1.
Important!
Pay attention to special tool bore in automatic transmission.
Fit special tool 11 9 292 on inlet camshaft and check timing
adjustment.
Note:
The timing is correctly adjusted when special tool 11 9 292
rests flat on the cylinder head or protrudes by up to 0.5 mm to
the exhaust side.
