1 Series E81 120i (N46T) 3-door
Note:
Cylinder head bolts 1 to 6 have an M10 thread with an
E12 bolt head.
Cylinder head bolts 7 to 10 have an M9 thread with an
E10 bolt head. Cylinder head bolt 10 is shorter than the others.
Because of the unfavourable position of the exhaust camshaft,
cylinder head bolt 10 is only accessible with an E10 socket with
1/4" drive.
Release cylinder head bolts from outside to inside in sequence 10
to 1.
Lift off cylinder head.
Clean cylinder head and crankcase with special tool 11 4 470 .
Installation:
Make sure no gasket remnants drop into oil and cooling channels.
Warning!
Protective goggles must be worn for the next work step.
Important!
There must be no engine oil or coolant in the tapped holes of
the engine block.
Clean blind holes with compressed air.
Risk of cracking and distorted tightening values.
Replace cylinder head gasket.
Put the cylinder head on.
Fit new cylinder head screws.
Apply a light coat of oil to washer contact area and thread of new
cylinder head bolts.
