M47TU2 diesel engine

Introduction
The second technical update for the M47 4 cylinder diesel engine with an upper and lower power stage was
introduced on the E87.
The M47TU2, which has also been fitted in the E83 since 09/2004, is also fitted in the E90.
Depending on the Series, there are differences in the M47TU2 including the exhaust system in particular:

E83: EURO 3 with oxidation catalytic converter

E87 with manual transmission: EURO 4 with oxidation catalytic converter

E87 and E90 with automatic transmission: EURO 4 with particulate catalytic converter
-
E90 and E87 with manual transmission or automatic transmission: EURO 4 optional with option 200 Diesel
particulate filter (E87 from 03/2005)
The Digital Diesel Electronics software status applied is series-specific.
The engine technical data is adapted to the specific Series.

In vehicles with diesel particulate filter, BMW Longlife-04 low-ash engine oil should be used.
