Important!
Install bearing shells (1) with continuous oil grooves in
engine block.
Install bearing shells (2) without continuous oil grooves in
lower crankcase.
Installation:
When the bearing shells or crankshaft are replaced, the
classification is eliminated for the bearing shell arrangement
in the crankcase.
Note:
Pilot bearing shell for crankshaft is installed at bearing
position 4 or at bearing position 5.
Bearing position for axial alignment can be recognized by
machining stage (1).
Important!
Bearing position for axial alignment on crankshaft must match
bearing position for axial alignment in crankcase.
Insert pilot bearing shell (2) in crankcase.
Production crankshaft identification:
The numbers featured in the illustration denote the crankshaft
main bearing positions 1 to 5.
Note:
This identification will be omitted from 09/2001.
Production crankshaft identification:
The numbers featured in the illustration denote the bearing shell
classification for the relevant bearing position from 1 to 5.
Depending on the identification on the crankshaft, yellow- or
green-coded bearing shells are installed at the relevant bearing
position.
