The steering column can be adjusted for height and reach.
The lumbar support can be adjusted in 4 directions.
The seats have an electric seat back width adjustment. This ensures that all occupants enjoy the best possible
lateral support, regardless of their stature.
The side sections of the rear seats increase seating comfort. Moreover, these side sections provide impact
protection in the event of a crash. This means that side airbags are not needed in the rear.
New generation of head-level airbag: The head-level airbag is a firm cushion. The head-level airbag covers the
entire side window, like a curtain. In this way, the head-level airbag provides not only impact protection but also
protection against splinters of glass.
Seatbelt height adjustment is no longer necessary: The seatbelt has the best possible fit in every seating
position. Injuries caused by an incorrectly set seatbelt height adjustment can thus be ruled out.
Electrical system and electronics
Even when it comes to electrics and electronics, the E87 is able to match its "big brothers", the E60 and E65:

Bus structure
The E87 has the same bus systems as the E60: K-CAN, MOST, PT-CAN and F-CAN.
Exception: The E87 has no byteflight. A new features on the PT-CAN is: The wake-up wire (terminal 15 wake-
up) is separately routed.
The MOST, an innovation in the E65 bus structure, is now also used in the E87.
This fibre-optic cable supports optional equipment such as the BMW "Professional" radio, navigation
system, etc.
The central interface for data transmission (= gateway) is the junction box electronics.
For diagnosis, the test module "MOST system analysis" has been developed in addition to the test module "Bus
diagnosis". The test module "MOST system analysis" detects faults in the MOST.

Power supply
On the E87, an equipment-specific vehicle electrical system ensures an optimal power supply.
