Dent repairs without damaging paintwork

Situation:
To date, minor dents were repaired only by means of conventional methods such as the
use of Multispot and body filler followed by painting.
The method of repairing parking and hailstone damage without damaging the paintwork is
now being used to an ever increasing extent. This repair procedure is supported and
approved by motor vehicle insurers.
This repair method involves pressing out damaged sections from the inside of sheet metal
panels by means of levers followed by polishing. The total expenditure is substantially lower
than compared to conventional dent repairs with subsequent painting. It should be borne in
mind that some damage points cannot be accessed due to reinforced or adhered body
parts. Drilling holes to improve accessibility is not permitted for safety reasons.
The maximum dent size should not exceed a diameter of 80 mm.
This method can also be used in general repair workshop procedures.

Based on this background as well as environmental aspects and the positive effect on
insurance coverage classification, this method of repairing dents without paintwork damage
is approved for BMW vehicles. This approval only applies to dents that do not have visible
paintwork cracks.
Procedure:
This method of repairing dents without paintwork damage requires continuous practice and
a high degree of skill. In order to cater for the relevant situation at all contractual partners,
two application methods for optimum use are offered.
1.
In the same way as professional body and paintwork shops are already used, also in
this case it is possible to commission qualified contractors for the purpose of
conducting dent repairs without paintwork damage.
2.
Purchase of a set of BMW pressing-out tools for dent repairs.
With regard to form and material, this set of tools is specially adapted to BMW
vehicles. The set consists of a standard kit (for approx. 80 % of the accessible body
outer skin panel) and an expansion kit (for the remaining 20 %).
Training is recommended in order to be able to use the set of tools effectively. Such training
courses are offered by external companies and can be conducted on site (e.g. Ur-Form for
Germany).

Note:
Make sure that the tool supplier does not conduct training courses under the
prerequisite of purchasing his particular set of pressing-out tools.
