Extension to the gas bottle inspection period
E36 / 316g
Situation:
The interval for periodic gas bottle pressure testing on the 316g was, at the start of series
production, five years (see the inspection sticker on the fuel filler flap for date). The 02 D
140 official type approval dated 19.04.1996 doubled this limit to ten years.
Under certain circumstances, this extension can also be implemented retrospectively.
Affected vehicles:
316g
Production period: from start of series production to April 1996
Action:
The inspection period can only be extended by a pressure vessels* specialist.
*Note:
The responsibility of the technical expert is governed by different laws in different
countries. Information can be obtained from official test houses.
In Germany: the specialist must be appointed in accordance with section 14 of the
Gerätesicherheitsgesetz GSG (Equipment Safety Law).
Procedure:
1.
Prerequisites:
•
The gas bottle tank frame must bear type approval 02 D 140 (see the label on the
frame on the retaining strap at the front left).
•
Inspections of, as well as any repairs to the gas system, must be carried out
according to the regulations, and must be documented.
2.
Provisions:
•
The relevant customers should be made aware of the possibility of extending the
inspection period (date, cost, completeness of the documentation).
•
Agree on a date with the customer/workshop/specialist.
•
Order the inspection sticker for the fuel filler flap from VT-201 (fax no. +8731/76-
23) stating the vehicle identification number, the year the next inspection is due
(2005), and the name of the BMW CNG specialist.
3.
The inspection procedure:
The pressure vessels expert
•
checks the gas bottle for type approval and condition (visual inspection).
•
enters the extension in the Supplementary Owner's Handbook.
•
labels the gas bottle with an official inspection sticker.
•
issues an appendix to the official inspection certification.
The BMW specialist (CNG trained employee)
•
fits the BMW inspection sticker with the new inspection period to the tank nozzle.
