Removing and installing/replacing CNG gas
bottle with retaining frame (E36)
Draining CNG system,
refer to section on draining the CNG system
Caution!
If the gas bottle is replaced, it must be completely emptied. To
do this, attach a special tool 12 8 010 to the wiring harness
connector on the gas density sensor, switch on the engine
and press gas button to switch over to gas operating mode.
Run engine in gas operating mode until it stalls. Stop cock on
gas bottle must remain open during this operation.
After draining the gas bottle, close the stop cock.
Remove left and right tail light hose and remove side trim from
threaded pin (1).
Remove retaining clip (1) and lift off side trim panel.
