Removing and installing / replacing exhaust
catalytic converter (M40, M42, M43, M44)

Disconnect plug connector for Lambda oxygen sensor.

Unclip wires in holder.

Unfasten hexagon nuts.

Installation:

Check seal, replace if necessary.

Replace self-locking nuts.

Coat threads with copper paste CRC, refer to BMW Parts
Service.

Remove exhaust pipe by unfastening the nuts from the
transmission bracket.

Installation:

Wait to mount bracket tension-free until exhaust catalytic
converter has been completely installed.

Unfasten flange connection, disconnect exhaust system and
remove exhaust catalytic converter.

Installation:

Replace self-locking nuts.

Coat threads with copper paste CRC, refer to BMW Parts
Service.

The screw heads must be located on the side of the
compression spring.
