3 Series E36 318tds (M41) SAL
Perform these measurements on all 4 pistons.
Calculate the mean value from the values obtained.
This mean value determines the thickness of cylinder-head seal.
Piston clearance: 0.54 - 0.76 mm
Install 2-hole seal.
Piston clearance: 0.76 - 0.99 mm
Install 3-hole seal.
Note:
If piston clearance on one or more cylinders is more than
0.81, fit 3-hole seal (regardless of mean piston clearance).
Check that dowel sleeves are undamaged and correctly located.
Apply permanently elastic Drei Bond 1209 sealing compound to
the joints between the timing-case cover and the engine block,
refer to BMW Parts Service.
