Removing and installing complete steering
column

Disconnect ground lead from battery.

Removing steering wheel,

refer to 32 33 000.

Removing lower trim section from instrument panel,

refer to 51 45 180.

Remove clamping bolt.

Pull steering spindle downwards out of spline in upper steering
spindle.

Installation note:

Screw must locate in retaining groove of upper steering
spindle. Note installation location,

refer to 32 31 070.

Replace self-locking nut. Tightening torque,

refer to Technical Data 32 31 1AZ.

compact:

Unscrew bolts.

Take off collar (1).

if necessary remove cable for interlock,

refer to 32 32 170.

Installation note:

Check position of collar (1) relative to snap ring (2). Recess in
collar locks snap ring.
