Removing and installing or replacing final
drive
Note:
When replacing the final drive, note rear axle ratio and
version (with or without differential lock). Both pieces of
information are embossed in type plate on final drive cover.
Final drive ratio,
refer to Technical Data.
If applicable, drain final drive oil.
Installation note:
Top up final drive,
refer to BMW Service Lubricants
Comply with specified oil quantity,
refer to Technical Data.
Removing propeller shaft from input flange,
refer to 26 11 000.
Pull off speedometer signal plug.
Unscrew left and right stabilizer mounts.
Unscrew and suspend left and right output shafts from car on
piece of wire.
Installation note:
Use washers (1).
Tightening torque,
refer to Technical Data 33 21 1AZ.
Support final drive with transmission hoist and special
tool 33 4 390.
