Hard 1-2 gearshift in warming-up phase

E36 320iA with Jatco transmission

Complaint: 

Hard gearshift from 1st to 2nd gear. The complaint only occurs in the warming-up phase,
up to a transmission oil temperature of approximately 40 

°

C.

Cause: 

Use of a modified master pressure control valve after completing tuning.

Affected vehicles:

E36 320iA with Jatco transmission and electronic transmission control unit (EGS), part
number 1 423 472 (programmed control unit) 
Manufacturing period: October 1996 until end of series production

Remedy: 

Pressure adjustment via software modification. Service EPROM has been released.

Procedure:

In case of customer complaint, install the Service EPROM in the EGS. The converted EGS
is then equivalent to part number 7 506 062 (programmed control unit).

Material and labour costs incurred can be claimed through the usual warranty channels
subject to current warranty terms.
