Expansion tank sealing rings
E36 / M50, M52 with ASC+T
Situation:
When lowering the transmission during removal or installation, the choke valve assembly
catches the brake fluid expansion tank if it is not removed beforehand in accordance with
the Repair Instructions. As a result, the two sealing rings between the brake fluid expansion
tank and the brake master cylinder may split or suffer major damage.
A fault of this nature can lead to an immediate loss of brake fluid or a slow leak, thus
seriously impairing vehicle safety.
Affected
vehicles:
All E36 vehicles with M50 and M52 engines and ASC+T
(vehicles with manual or automatic transmission)
Procedure:
As already described in the Repair Instructions, it is imperative that the throttle valve
assembly be removed when removing and installing the transmission (manual or
automatic).
