Removing and installing or replacing (lower)
steering spindle
Remove steering wheel,
refer to 32 33 000.
Steering spindle without flexible coupling:
Steering spindle viewed from above.
Remove clamping screws on steering spindle (top) and on
steering gear.
Slide steering spindle together and remove.
Installation:
Set steering gear to straight-ahead position.
Install steering spindle installing screw (1) vertically on engine
end. Slot in lower joint must match mark on steering gear.
Bolts must engage in locking grooves of steering spindle (top)
and steering-gear spindle.
Replace self-locking nuts.
Tightening Torque,
refer to Technical Data 32 31 1AZ.
Steering spindle with flexible coupling:
Except for US models:
Steering spindle viewed from above.
Remove clamping screws from universal joint and flexible
coupling.
Slide flexible coupling downwards.
Pull steering spindle upwards out of flexible coupling and remove.
Installation:
Set steering gear to straight-ahead position.
Install steering spindle installing screw (1) vertically on engine
end. Fit flexible coupling with short flange facing steering
gear, ensuring that slot is aligned with mark on steering gear.
Bolts must engage in locking grooves of steering spindle (top)
and steering-gear spindle.
Replace self-locking nuts.
Tightening Torque,
refer to Technical Data 32 31 1AZ.
