Replacing convertible top lid cover

Note:

In this series the cover of the convertible top lid is vacuum-
laminated. With this process the cover is glued over its
entire surface. When replacing in the case of repairs, this
vacuum-laminated cover must also be used.

When pulling off the cover, a foam residue must remain on
the entire surface of the convertible top lid. This residual
foam needs not be removed if it does not separate at any
point.

The new cover is placed on the lid and only glued on the
return edge.

Make sure the vent ducts are kept free of adhesive in the
area of trim strip!

When installing a replacement lid, the cover is also only
glued on the return edge.

A profile rubber adhesive is used for gluing (sourcing
reference: BMW Parts Service).

Before the start of repairs, lay a wool blanket on the assembly
area, to protect the paintwork of the convertible top lid from
damage.

Mark mounting on convertible top compartment cover (this
eliminates the need to adjust the convertible top compartment
cover).

Unfasten screws and lay convertible top compartment cover on
wool blanket.

Carefully unclip the trim strip (1) upwards.
