Checking engine idling speed and exhaust
contents and adjusting if necessary (M50) -
vehicle without catalytic converter -

Requirements for All Adjustments:

Engine at normal operating temperature (oil temperature > 60

°

C).

Engine and ignition system functioning correctly.

Connect BMW SERVICE TESTER.

Check idling speed:

Engine Test, Test Step No.5

1) Engine idle speed:

Check engine idle speed.

If the specified value is not achieved, refer to: Electrical
Troubleshooting Manual for 3 Series E36.

Additional instructions, refer to point 3).

2) Exhaust test:

Insert exhaust sensor in exhaust tailpipe.

Check exhaust contents at idle speed.

Switch off exhaust extraction system for time of testing.

If nominal value is not achieved, exhaust contents can be
measured for each individual cylinder group,

refer to 13 00 060
