Opening travel of sliding-tilting sunroof

E36 touring, E36 compact

Situation: 

When the sliding sunroof is fully open, loud rumbling noises build up in the passenger
compartment at speeds between approx. 30 mph and 55 mph.

Vehicles affected:

E36 touring, E36 compact

Procedure:

E36 touring: since the start of series production, the cars have been fitted with a sliding-
tilting sunroof motor with a "comfort position". This modified drive unit means that the
sliding-tilting sunroof comes to a stop approx.
78 mm before the previous end position when opening. In this "comfort position", the
rumbling noises do not occur.

The sliding-tilting sunroof can be opened fully by pressing the control button again.

E36 compact: this drive unit has been fitted in series production as of 01/95 and is
described in the Supplementary Owner's Handbook.

Note:

The modification to the E36 touring will be integrated into the Owner's Handbook as of
September '95.

Attention:

If the complaint "Sliding-tilting sunroof does not open fully" is received, you cannot  fit
the sliding-tilting sunroof motor for the E36/4 (warranty claims are likewise
unacceptable).
