Removing and installing / replacing fuel level
sensor (left) (complete unit)

Sucking the fuel out of the fuel tank,

refer to 16 00 005

Disconnect connector.

Note:

Ensure that area around fuel tank screw connection is clean.

Spark-ignition engines up to 12/94 and diesel engines

Remove fuel return hose (1) and tank expansion hose (2).

Spark-ignition engines from 1/95

Note:

Tank expansion lead is fitted inside fuel tank.

Disconnect fuel return hose (1).

Unfasten rotary connection with special tool 16 1 020.

Installation:

Replace sealing ring. Check rotary connection for damage
and replace if necessary. To ensure adequate preload on the
seal, always fit new rotary connection on torsion bar.

Tighten rotary connection with torsion bar and check torque.

Tightening torque,

refer to Technical Data 16 14 2AZ
