Removing and installing/replacing both
convertible top locks (power/fully-automatic)

Note:

Open convertible top as far as microswitch (S8)
"convertible top switches via dead center point".

Removing and installing finisher on convertible top lock,

refer to 54 34 125

In addition, on right convertible top lock:

Removing and installing motor for convertible top lock,

refer to 54 34 200

Lift out retainer (1) and disconnect ball pan (2).

Pull input shaft (3) off motor. 

In addition, on left convertible top lock:

Pull off connector (4), unlock housing (5) and remove from
bracket.

Unfasten guide (1), remove completely and wipe away screw
retaining fluid with a cleaning cloth.

Adjust input shaft (2) by hand until screw (3) for tool is accessible.

Installation:

Install guide (1) with Loctite 243 (Sourcing Reference: BMW
Parts Service).

Tightening torque, refer to Technical Data 54 34 9AZ

Unfasten screws (1) and nuts (2).

Pull convertible top lock (3) upwards to remove.
