Program selector switch
The gear change programs are called up in the SMG control unit via the program selector switch (item 5,
Fig. 7). These programs can only be called up when the selector lever is in position "E".
The first time the program selector switch is pressed, "Automatic" mode with raised characteristic is called
up (shift points moved to higher engine speeds).
Only the gear currently selected is shown in the gear and program indicator.
The second time it is pressed, "Automatic"/winter mode is selected.
In addition to the gear currently selected, the winter symbol also appears in the gear and program
indicator.
Kickdown switch
Gear shifts are executed more quickly if the accelerator pedal is depressed beyond the kickdown point.
Upshifts and downshifts are made at higher engine speeds when "Automatic" mode is selected.
Upshift lamp
If a dynamic driving style is adopted, the upshift lamp (item 1, Fig. 7) lights up shortly before the engine's
maximum rpm is reached.
This instructs the driver to shift to a higher gear. If this is not heeded, the engine will be limited by the speed
limiter.
The upshift lamp is only active in "S"/sequential mode.
