Removing and installing transmission
(S6S 420G SMG)
Caution!
After 2000 km it is absolutely essential to carry out a
breaking-in inspection including an oil change,
refer to BMW Service Operating Fluids.
The transmission must be filled with Lifetime oil!
Note:
After finishing work:
Check transmission fluid level,
refer to 00 11 229.
Bleed hydraulic system; for this purpose, carry out bleeding
procedure with BMW diagnostic system.
Carry out transmission adaptation with BMW diagnostic
system.
Check fluid level in hydraulic system (SMG),
refer to 21 53 501.
Caution!
Depressurize hydraulic system; for this purpose:
Open cover on E-box on right spring strut shock absorber and pull
off relay (1).
Switch on ignition.
Actuate brake.
Shift selector lever from position "0" to"R" and/or "0" to "E" until
the transmission stops performing gear changes.
Note:
The gear display in the instrument cluster begins to flash. The
selected gear is no longer displayed. The transmission does
not cause any gearshift noises.
Switch off ignition.
Disconnect battery,
refer to Instructions on disconnecting and connecting battery in
MG 12.
