3 Series E36 M3 (S50) SAL
Lock selector lever (2) with a screwdriver (1) in position "R".
Shift transmission at idle speed. This involves:
Inserting a cotter pin extractor (1) in the bore of the selector shaft
(2).
Pressing the selector shaft (2) forwards (A) and/or pulling
backwards (B), until the output flange (3) rotates easily.
Note:
The selector shaft (2) must be able to be turned at idle against
spring force (C).
Check distance A = 140
±
0.5 mm between brackets.
Press spring element (1) in direction of cable (2) until spring action
is noticeable.
Caution!
Do not press too firmly, selector lever must remain in "R"
position.
Release spring element (1).
Tighten down nut (3) to 10 Nm , unfasten 1/2 a turn, then tighten
down to 12 Nm.
