Complaint:
- The following faults may be stored in the fault memory:
(083) 53 "Crankshaft sensor signal"
(244) F4 "Segment timing - concentricity fault"
- "Check engine" lamp lights up on US models
- Vehicle goes into emergency program
Cause:
Two causes are possible:
1. Component fault on crankshaft pulse transmitter
2. Insufficient fault tolerance in DME data status, i.e. the fault is not automatically rectified.
Affected
vehicles:
E36/7, E39, E46, E53 with M54 engine
Manufacturing period: from start of series production to 01.01.2001
Procedure:
In case of customer complaint, proceed as follows:
Replace the crankshaft sensor and program the current data status from CD 27.0 or later.
Observe the notes in repair instructions 12 14 705 and on the CD used (e.g. Programming
Drive Train P27.0).
