Correcting vehicle data in EWS control unit

Situation:
Incorrect vehicle data has been stored in the electronic immobiliser (EWS) control unit.
Effect:
The incorrect vehicle data stored in the EWS control unit makes vehicle identification in
Service impossible. Vehicle systems (e.g. EWS, airbag) cannot be recognised in the short
test or in diagnosis.
Affected
vehicles:
Z3
Manufacturing period: April 1999 until July 1999
Action:
Check vehicle data in EWS control unit and correct as necessary.
Procedure:
1.
Load the DIS or MoDiC III with CD ROM version 19.0 (or later).
2.
Connect the DIS or MoDiC III to the diagnosis connector.
3.
Switch on the ignition.
4.
Vehicle identification: Proceed with "Arrow to right".
5.
In diagnosis mode, select the overview page "Diagnosis - select function and
component".
6.
Select the functions "Service functions" - "Body" - "Electronic immobiliser" - "Enter
production date" in sequence.
7.
Select "Test schedule".
8.
Do not perform the short test.
9.
Start the service function with "Arrow to right".
10. The relevant instructions are given on the appropriate page. Proceed with "Arrow to
right".
11. In the next step, the date of production stored in the EWS control unit is displayed.
12. Check date of production.
The date of production appears in the format "DDMMYY" (DD=Day, MM=Month,
YY=Year).
For example, if the date of production is given as "120599", then the date of
production is correct. Complete the check with point 14.
For example, if the date of production is given as "120500", then the date of
production is incorrect and must be corrected. Proceed with "Arrow to right".
13. Enter the correct date. The number is entered on the number block which appears on
the screen. The numbers for "DDMM" must be entered again, the numbers for "YY"
should be "99" instead of "00". The corrected date of production is then, for example
"120599". Confirm the input with "Yes" and proceed twice with "Arrow to right".
14. Continue in accordance with the prompts given on the tester.
