Faulty DME data of the Valvetronic monitoring function

Complaint:
After the engine warm-up phase (engine temperature > 60
°
Celsius), mixed operation
between throttle valve and Valvetronic is activated for 3 seconds as a transitional function.
If the engine is run over the full 3 seconds at low load (< 12 per cent throttle valve position),
the diagnosis system may incorrectly detect Valvetronic implausibility.
At this point, the digital engine electronics (DME) activates the emergency program. This
expresses itself in an increased idling speed (approx. 1200 rpm), power loss and a poorer
throttle response.
Furthermore, the EML lamp (electronic engine performance control) lights up and the fault
DME-27CE (load monitor Valvetronic, plausibility (P3229)) is entered in the DME control
unit.
Cause:
The position of the valve lift is monitored in the affected N42 engine. A permissible valve lift
range is determined. In the transition from throttle valve to Valvetronic operation, the
monitoring model in the DME control unit was not provided with a sufficient safety distance.

Procedure:
In the event of customer complaint, program the DME control unit with DIS CD29.0 or
higher.
When programming the DME control unit with the diagnosis system, proceed as follows:
1.
Select "Programming"
2.
Select "DME programming"
3.
Select "Replace control unit"
4.
Select "Determine basic control unit"
5.
Note vehicle identification number
6.
Select "Program basic control unit"
7.
Enter vehicle identification number
8.
Enter kilometre reading
9.
Select "Start programming"
Reimbursement:
Material and labour costs incurred can be claimed through the usual warranty channels
subject to current warranty terms.
