Removing and installing/replacing full-flow oil
filter (N40/N42/N45/N46)

Special tools required:

11 9 240

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Drain coolant from radiator.

Remove intake filter housing.

Important!

Protect alternator against engine oil.

Cover alternator with suitable apparatus. (Risk of damage).

Pull out lock (1).

Detach water hoses from oil-water heat exchanger.

Remove cap from full-flow oil filter with special tool  11 9 240 .
Remove oil filter element.

This task is described in the section BMW engine oil service.
