Engine emergency program lamp lights up

E36/7, E39, E46, E52, E53 with M54/S54 and S62

Complaints:

Engine emergency program lamp lights up. The following fault codes are stored in the DME
fault code memory.

M54 Lambda control sensors 
(025) 19 - heat circuit P0030 bank 1 
(055) 37 - heat circuit P0050 bank 2 
(150) 96 - signal circuit P0134 bank 1 
(151) 97 - signal circuit P0154 bank 2 
(188)  BC - plausibility P0135 bank 1 
(189) BD - plausibility P0155 bank 2 
(235) EB - trim regulator before catalytic converter bank 1 
(236) EC - trim regulator before catalytic converter bank 2

M54 oxygen monitor sensors
(061) 3D - heat circuit P0056 bank 2
(079) 4F - heat circuit P0036 bank 1
(152) 98 - signal circuit P0140 bank 1
(153) 99 - signal circuit P0160 bank 2
(190) BE - plausibility P0141 bank 1
(191) BF - plausibility P0161 bank 2
(225) E1 - trim regulator after catalytic converter bank 1
(226) E2 - trim regulator after catalytic converter bank 2

S54/S62 Lambda control sensors 
(013) 0D - oxygen sensor 1 before catalytic converter P0130/P0134 bank 1 
(012) 0C - oxygen sensor 2 before catalytic converter P0150/P0154 bank 2 
(218) DA - signal stroke P0134/P1184 bank 1 
(219) DB - signal stroke P0154/P1185 bank 2

S54/S62 oxygen monitor sensors 
(013) 0D - voltage monitoring P0139 bank 1 
(093) 5D - voltage monitoring P0159 bank 2

Cause:

Concept of DME data status.
Intermittent fault caused by excessively sensitive signal circuit for sensors. This causes a
fault to be detected, even though no fault is present.

Affected vehicles:

E46, E53 with M54(MS43), S54 
Manufacturing period: Start of series production until September 2003. 
E36/7, E39, E52 with M54 (MS43), S54, S62 
Manufacturing period: Start of series production until end of series production

Remedy:

Program the DME control unit with the current data status.

Procedure: 

In case of customer complaint: 
Reprogram the DME control unit with DIS CD "Programs V35.0" or later.

Note:

Exchanging the oxygen sensors will not bring about a lasting remedy.
