Cause:
Concept of DME data status.
Intermittent fault caused by excessively sensitive signal circuit for sensors. This causes a
fault to be detected, even though no fault is present.
Affected vehicles:
E38, E39, E53 with ME7.2 (M62 LEV/TU)
Manufacturing period: September 1998 to September 2002.
E36/7, E46, E39 with MS42 (M52 LEV/TU)
Start of series production until June 2000
Remedy:
Program the DME control unit with the current data status.
Procedure:
In case of customer complaint:
Program the DME with DIS CD 33 or a later version.
Note:
Exchanging the oxygen sensors will not bring about a lasting remedy.
Reimbursement:
Material and labour costs incurred can be claimed through the usual warranty channels
subject to current warranty terms.
