Door edge guard loose
E46/Coupé
Complaint:
Door edge guard damaged by door trim.
Cause:
The door edge guard comes away from the flange on the B-pillar and is pulled off when the
doors are closed.
Affected vehicles:
E46 Coupé
Manufacturing period: Start of series production until December 2004
Remedy:
In case of customer complaint, the door edge guard should be replaced and glued in the
area of the B-pillar.
In most cases, the door edge guard on the passenger side is not damaged and only needs
to be glued as described below.
Procedure:
•
Remove the damaged door edge guard and the adhesive tape underneath.
•
Clean the area illustrated with BMW glue remover.
•
Allow the cleaned area to air dry.
•
Coat only the cleaned area with a 15 mm wide strip of BMW profile rubber adhesive
(Terokal 2444) on the inside and outside, as illustrated.
•
The glue has an air drying time of 20 minutes at room temperature.
•
Fit the door edge guard to the flange in its final position.
•
Leave the vehicle to stand for approx. 1 hour.
