Encoding ZCS/FA
Situation:
From CD 27.0, Series E46 vehicles of manufacturing period from September 2001 can no
longer be encoded via the ZCS (central encoding key), but rather must now be encoded
using an FA (vehicle order). In this vehicle order, relevant information is no longer in bit-
code format, but rather in straightforward text.
Using the newly incorporated 'FA Editor', the FA can also be edited or modified.
Affected vehicles: E46 with vehicle order
Manufacturing period: from September 2001
Procedure:
To display and print vehicle order:
After calling up menu item "3 Display encoding key/vehicle order and store to print", the 7-
digit vehicle identification number appears in the familiar manner. The FA (dissected into its
individual components) is also displayed:

Vehicle model key, corresponds to digits 4-7 of the long
vehicle identification number
Time criterion:
Vehicle version, in format MMYY
Paint code:
Number of exterior colour
Upholstery code:
Number of interior equipment
Assembly no.:
Part numbers of programmed DME, DDE and EGS control
units
E-Wort (E word):
Additions to the order (deviations on the vehicle from the
standard series status which cannot be defined by optional
extras with value > 100)
HO-Wort (HO word):
Customer-specific amendments (additions in dealer
organisation (HO) which cannot be defined by optional
extras with value > 100)
SA (Option):
Option numbers for all optional extras installed
Following this, the storage location of the vehicle order and vehicle identification number
displayed are shown.
The vehicle order is stored in the instrument cluster (KOMBI) and in the lights switching
centre (LSZ).
