3 Series E46 M3 (S54) CONVER
Check auxiliary damper (1), gaiter (2) and spring pad (3) for
damage, replace if necessary.
Note:
Align spring pad (3) by way of recess to spring plate.
Insert shock absorber in tensioned coil spring.
Check support bearing and spring pad for damage, replace if
necessary.
Attach thrust washer and spring plate with bearing to piston rod.
Attach support bearing and shim to piston rod.
Replace nut and tighten down with special tool 31 2 210 (grip
piston rod in the process).
Tightening torque 31 31 2AZ
.
Fit cover cap.
Important!
Upper coil of coil spring must rest positively on spring plate!
Align lower end of coil spring (1) as pictured to spring pad.
Relieve tension on coil spring.
Check installation position of gaiter, correct fold if necessary.
Note:
End of coil spring (1) must not touch against shoulder of spring
pad.
Recess (2) only serves to reinforce and correctly seat the spring
pad and does not serve as a stop for the spring end.
After installation:
•
Carry out wheel alignment check if a spring strut with support
bearing was or has been installed without centering pin.
